MAHATMA GANDHI Mahatma Gandhi, an apostle of non-violence and preacher of truth, was born on October 2 nd , 1869 in Gujarat. The full name of Gandhi is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was a great freedom fighter who led India as a leader of nationalism against British rule. He is also knowns as Father of Nation. The honorific Mahatma which means great-souled in Sanskrit first applied to him in 1914 in South Africa, is now used throughout the world.
