AP SSC 10th class biology important questions (1st lesson) with answers.

AP SSC important questions

Biology- 1st lesson

1.  Explain the structure chloroplast with a neatly labelled diagram.

Structure of chloroplast

1) The chloroplast is a membranous structure, consisting of 3 membranes.

2) The intermediary fluid filled portion called as stroma is responsible for enzymatic reactions leading to the synthesis of glucose, which in turn join together to for starch.

3) Typical chloroplasts are disc shaped and are filled with colourless area called stroma.

4) They are covered by two membranes.

5) Stacks of thylakoid membranes are located in the stroma and are connected by stroma lamella.

6) Due to the presence of chlorophyll, chloroplasts are green.

7) The chlorophyll pigment is fat soluble and is located in the lipid part of the thylakoid membrane.

8) Chlorophyll is organized to form the reaction centres called photosystem-1 and photosystem-11.

2. Write the difference between light reaction and dark reaction.

              Light reaction

                  Dark reaction

1) It occurs in the presence of light.

1) It occurs in the presence and absence of light.

2) It occurs in the green thylakoids.

2) It occurs in stroma of chloroplast.

3) In this reaction, photolysis occurs.

3) Carbon fixation takes place here.

4) In thils reaction ATP and NADPH2 are formed.

4) In this reaction ATP and NADPH2 are utilized.

5) It is oxidative process because electrons are released.

5) It is reduction reaction since electrons are accepted.

3. How would you demonstrate that plants release oxygen when exposed to light?

AIM: To demonstrate that green plants release oxygen when exposed to light.

MATERIALS REQUIRED: Two identical sets of test tube, beaker, water, funnel, hydrilla plant.

PROCEDURE:

1)   Arrange the apparatus as shown in the figure.

2)   Place some water plant in a beaker containing pond water and cover these by a short stemmed funnel.

3)   Invert a test-tube  filled with water over the stem of the funnel. Ensure that the level of water in the beaker is above the level of stem of the inverted funnel.

4)   Place one set of apparatus in the sum for atleast 3 days. Keep the other in the dark.

OBSERVATION:

1)   You would see that in place of water there is air that fills the test tube, which is kept in the sunlight. It is actually gas that will collect in the test tube.

2)   Test the gas in the test tube by inserting a glowing incense stick which would burst into flames.

3)   In the other set you can find only a little gas.

INFERENCE: This shows the presence of oxygen.

4. Draw a neatly labelled diagram of chloroplast found in leaf, and write about its role in photosynthesis?

During photosynthesis several events occur in the chloroplast like:

1)   Conversion of light energy to chemical energy.

2)   Splitting of water molecule.

3)   Reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrates.

APJ Abdul Kalam - A short essay for students with easy words - essay competition.   “Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work.”  –  A.P.J. Abdul Kalam   Early life and Education: The full name of Abdul kalam is Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam . He was born on 15 of  October in 1931 to a Tamil Muslim family in Rameshwaram.  His father Jainulabdeen was a boat owner and his mother Ashiamma was a housewife. By his early childhood, Kalam's family had become poor. In his school years, Kalam had average grades but he was described as a bright and hardworking student. He spent hours on his studies, especially mathematics. He graduated in physics in 1954, from University of Madras. He moved to  Madras  in 1955 to study aerospace engineering in  Madras Institute of Technology . Career as a Scientist: After graduating from the  Madras Institute of Technology  in 1960, Kalam joined the

AP / TS SSC BIOLOGY IMPORTANT                         QUESTIONS FOR CLASS 10   -   CHAPTER 3 1. What is root pressure? How it is useful to the plants?  Root pressure is osmotic pressure within the cells of a root system that causes sap to rise through a plant stem to the leaves. Root pressure develops due to the absorption of water by roots and pushes the water upwards by a few meters and is enough to supply water to leaves in small plants and small trees. Root pressure provides a modest push in the overall process of water transport.  They obviously do not play a major role in water movements up tall trees. The greatest contribution of root pressure may be to re-establish the continuous chains of water molecules in the xylem. Root pressure does not account for the majority of water transport. 2. Explain an experiment to understand root pressure. Root pressure AIM: To understand the root pressure. Materials required: Potted plant, glass tube Procedure:  A potted plant is wat
